Today started like an ordinary day. In fact, I was thinking that I might not blog today because there was so little to say. Much like every weekend when I'm stuck in West Virginia, my life is revolves around how much reading, outlining, job and bar exam applying I can get done. But, as it turns out, the year of Katie is in full force, and today I had my first success.
When I logged onto my school email account, I had a pretty sweet email. I like to include excerpts from emails, and this one is no exception. Here ya go:
"Katherine,
I am delighted to inform you that you have earned a CALI award for your excellent performance in Health Care Torts. Congratulations. To honor your accomplishment, the College of Law would like to recognize you with the presentation of a certificate at the College of Law Weekend of Honors celebration on April 10, 2011.
Shortly, formal invitations to the ceremony will be sent to you and your immediate family (i.e. parents, spouse, children).
Thanks very much for your help. I look forward to seeing you on April 10."

A CALI, in case you're not a WVU student, is an award that goes to the student with the highest grade in a class. I'm really not trying to brag; I have to say, I am extremely surprised to get an award. When I started law school, I saw letters on my transcript that I had never seen before. Finally (finally!) I have figured out law school. I'm not a failure at life. It's good to hear that sometimes. I'm only disappointed I didn't know about this soon enough to add another line to the resumes I sent out last week. Oh well.
My mom is insisting on coming to my awards ceremony. She's so sweet. Since I've been so far away in law school, no one has really visited me. They pretty much just dropped me off when I moved in, assembled some furniture, and left me here--alone. Well, to be fair, it is pretty far away. But it will be pretty fun to have her come visit, even if it is just for a silly awards ceremony. It will probably be stuffy and annoying (not to mention I have to get an award for the clinic thing--and the professor that haaaates me will probably be there), but maybe she'll get a flying WV cookie and have some Tang Time with me. That's a pretty sweet reward all by itself.
