This is what Laura sent to ask me to be her bridesmaid! The shirt is a very light yellow--which is the color that she wants our bridesmaid dresses to be.
The package was a total surprise! How thoughtful is she? And so clever! That's why we're BFF.
I have to say, I am quite the bridesmaid. Last year, I was MOH for my sister's wedding. At the time, I joked that I was building up my bridesmaid portfolio so that all of my friends would see it and be convinced that they had to have me as their bridesmaid. As it turns out, I really am building a portfolio. Laura is engaged, and my cousin Erin also recently got engaged. Looks like I'll be planning a lot more bridal showers!
For one thing, I absolutely love stationery--invitations and thank you notes are probably one of my very most favorite things in the world. Ever since Laura got engaged, I have been looking at invitations and trying to plan my next move. Since I'm not MOH, there's a little less pressure on me--I was thinking that maybe I would plan a lingerie shower. Her MOH will probably plan the more traditional shower (kitchen things and such) and maybe I can have the scandalous, lace and satin filled one. Anyway, I am no bridal shower novice.
Here are a few pictures from my portfolio. Looks like its going to keep on growing, though, and I have to say I can't wait!
Here's a cake I made... I used the pound cake recipe from Paula Deen's website. I'm pretty sure that all things delicious in this world can be found on either Martha Stewart and Paula Deen.
'Ol Paula knows a few things, that's for sure--definitely, definitely use butter in this recipe. I made it once without butter (just because I didn't have any) and, let me tell you, the difference is huge.
Also, I recently learned that I am an old lady because I look forward to my Martha Stewart Living subscription even more than my Cosmo one. Never saw that one coming.
Here are some of the flowers that I used at the bridal shower!
A number 1 bridesmaid also provides booze. On the day of the wedding, my sister was very nervous (because she hates having attention on her--can you believe we're related?) and she said wine would help. Unfortunately, I probably ended up consuming most of it. She said I was drunk and that she was very disappointed but I was more than able to pull it together---just because SHE couldn't do it doesn't mean I can't!
Sarah always jokes about being the Middle Sister--this wine is perfect (totally cheap--about $10 a bottle and can be found at Target) because it has these funny sayings on the bottles about middle sisters. Like this one:
Did you know that birth order is commonly believed to have a profound and lasting effect on psychological development? And that the middle sister has a greater chance of having a special wine named just for her? A sassy blend of our three favorite red varieties perfect for sipping before, during and after our favorite family meals. Some people are just born lucky. Now give me back my blouse. (Came from the Wicked White bottle!)
Sarah always said she was the black sheep. This wine fits her perfectly.
Here's another picture from the bridal shower--the food table! I apologize for my grainy pictures--the bachelorette party was the night before, and I dropped my camera. With the lens out. It was never the same again. Unfortunately, I missed a lot of important pictures---namely, my sister riding the mechanical bull, and then even at the wedding, I didn't have a new camera yet so I missed out on some bridal portrait-like pictures that I really wanted to take. It's okay, I have a new camera (thanks, Sarah, Kyle and Mason--best Christmas present ever!)---so I will try to take as many pictures as possible from Laura's experience this summer. But even with my messed up camera, you get the general idea, and its still a pretty sweet portfolio.
A note for safety: hold your camera with both hands, and beware of drunken bridesmaids at all times.
And here's the finished product the day of the wedding! It's my younger brother in the middle, not the groom. From left to right, its Courtney, Christine, Mason, Sarah (duh, she's wearing white), me, and the groom's sister, Laren. The bridesmaids dresses came from Ann Taylor. They weren't my favorite, but they're definitely the kind of style that you can wear again---and they have pockets! I was glad to have a place to put my toast---and a place to keep the ring, before the Church Nazi took it from me, saying I couldn't be trusted. (She was a very grumpy lady who was apparently supposed to make the whole thing run smoother, but really just insulted everybody--like when she told my sister that she needed to make sure she was able to control her husband better. Anyway...water under the bridge.) We looked good. Love my makeup, I have to say.
